Reporting your concerns about the welfare of a child or young person
If you are worried about a child then you need to report your concerns to the Club Welfare Officer. This could include an incident of poor practice towards a child, a child welfare issue or a child protection matter.

Reporting a disclosure of abuse from a child or young person
If a child or young person makes a disclosure of abuse, respond appropriately. Listen carefully and avoid expressing your own views on the matter. Let them know they have done the right thing and that you will take them seriously. Do not promise to keep the disclosure confidential but explain what you will do next. Record what you’ve been told or seen promptly and as thoroughly as possible. Then make contact with the CWO or one of the organisations listed below.

What happens next
The Club Welfare Officer will decide what happens next, whether it can be dealt with at club level or needs to be referred to the FA County Welfare Officer or the Local Authority Children’s Services or the police.

If at any time you are not able to contact the Club Welfare Officer or the matter is clearly serious then you can either contact the County FA Welfare Officer direct or contact The FA Safeguarding Team on 0800 169 1863 or safeguarding@TheFA.com.

You can also contact the London Borough of Richmond Children’s Services (Mon-Fri 020 8547 5008 or Out of Hours 020 8770 5000). You can call the NSPCC 24 hour Helpline for advice on 0808 800 5000 or email help@nspcc.org.uk. Or you should call the Police if a child or young person is in immediate danger.
